Make it Monday: Graduations!

Hello friends! Family members are still studying and graduating so I wanted to make some congratulatory cards using academic hood colours. The colours usually identify the institution and specific field of study, and the hood lining shows the faculty’s signature colour. My first hood was black edged with white fur (now faux) …

… while Paul’s last hood was very colourful, claret edged in gold!!

I’ve prepped some card bases using popular hood colours, but have plenty more cardstock colours to choose from:

Two squares make up the mortarboard (a ‘trencher’ or ‘graduation cap’); rather than use the traditional black, I’m matching the mortarboard to the card base:

All cards have four gold strips on the front as decoration …

… that looks like this! The celebratory stamp I chose says it all!

The stamped mortarboard is hand coloured with a black alcohol marker:

The decorative medallion for the mortarboard involves punching out a black cardstock circle, and the stamped image with a fancy shape, then die-cutting a gold circle from shiny cardstock:

A few more steps follow to create the medallions, the first with liquid glue:

The second using LOTS of adhesive foam dots

The third by adding glossy accents to the hand-coloured mortarboard to create shine and extra dimension 🙂

I’m very happy with the end result! 🙂 A congratulatory message can be written on the white writing panel which is backed with gold cardstock:

The writing panel is adhered with double-sided tape: MEANWHILE …  I received these gorgeous flowers as a ‘just because/ thinking of you’ surprise from our daughter – I love them and her!!

Thanks so much for spending some time with me and I hope to see you again soon 🙂 Megan xo
